Travel + Leisure en Espanol is more than what its title suggests. It is in fact the well-known U.S. luxury travel pub, translated for Hispanic audiences here and abroad. But it
is also a pub geared specifically to Latino readers, with unique content designed to appeal to Spanish-speaking audiences in the United States and Latin America.

Reynaldo Alés, an old hand at the "en Espanol" concept, is editor-in-chief, after holding the same position at Men's Fitness en Espanol and Motor Trend en Espanol.

The publication will be distributed in 19 countries including the Spanish-speaking United States. The audience, Alés says, is very similar to the demographic reading the
original T+L: well-heeled travelers, with a median age of about 40 to 50.

Content/Contacts

The content of the monthly, which debuted last month, is comprised of some of the fodder from Travel + Leisure, along with about three original stories geared specifically at
the Latino reader. Those features, Alés says, will cover everything from art to food to boutiques to restaurants. "If there's a new restaurant opening in Los Angeles [that has an
impact on the Spanish-speaking community], we would like to feature it," he says. Alés will focus primarily on the southern hemisphere, however. "If that restaurant is opening in
Paris, it's beyond my limits. I would rather focus on the Hispanic U.S. or Latin America."

Pitch Tips

Alés is an affable guy when it comes to delivery. Anything from a phone call to an email to a snail mail package is acceptable, and he's open to pitches in Spanish or English.

He prefers not to receive follow-up calls, though he doesn't mind receiving an email reminding him of your pitch. But "I'm too polite, and I hate that about myself. So when I
get a follow-up call, I waste ten minutes" letting the caller down easy, he says.

Just remember to keep his target audience in mind. Pitches should offer something unique for the Hispanic reader, and if the pitch includes a Latin American destination, all
the better.

Get pitches for the January issue to Alés by late October. He needs fodder for every issue a little more than two months in advance of the issue date.

Keep in mind when pitching the pub that the Latin American world is on a different seasonal schedule than most of the United States, so while T+L en Espanol may use a good deal
of T+L's fodder, the T+L en Espanol October issue will be very different from the T+L October issue. So don't recycle pitches without knowing there's an appeal for the Latin
reader.

In The Pipeline

In October, the pub will run a story on Los Angeles "that does not mention Sunset Boulevard or show the Hollywood sign, which is pretty unusual in a [destination] story about
L.A.," Alés says. November's issue will profile a small neighborhood in Buenos Aires (including beautiful photos), and in December, Alés will cover the 10 best places to spend
Christmas, including Latin American, Mexican and other destinations. The January issue will cover the Mayan Riviera in Mexico.
