Editor's Note: CableFAX Daily, a sister publication of PR NEWS, has a reputation in the cable industry for sniffing out breaking news and staying true to the what-does-this-mean-for-me? spin. This daily fax newsletter relies on numbers: what mergers cost; viewership ratings; and stock dips.

No good or bad days: "It's a grind every day," says Donohue. But you'll be likely to earn a couple gold stars if you refrain from calling this editor in the afternoon. If you have an idea for a story, place your pitch before noon the day prior to publication. Interrupt Donohue only on deadline if it's pressing, something he'll certainly want for the next issue. Because Donohue's pumping out copy every day, his office comes equipped with a fax machine, so that's your most reliable channel. Your second bet is e-mail, but keep your messages brief. If time is of the essence, snail mail's a lowly contender: Donohue doesn't open up his mail until the end of the week.

Donohue's advice is plentiful: "We make efforts to be knowledgeable about products and companies so PR professionals should make the effort to know the publication they're pitching. CableFAX is all about numbers - deals, partnering, cable ops."

Footnote: Donohue doesn't mind follow-up calls, but offers this caveat: "Don't call me on deadline and say 'Did you get that personnel announcement?' unless you're bringing Ted Turner onboard
