Here's a great opportunity to broaden your pitching horizons to the only national 24-hour Spanish language news-talk, sports, information and entertainment network. Since most producers prefer pitches in Spanish, all non-bilingual members of the PR community most likely will be working with Nickie Jurado, director of communications for Radio Unica. You'll find her an energetic and helpful alternative to working with all those cynical journalists. She'll direct press releases to the appropriate producer. (Jurado, 305/463-5140)

SECTIONS: MORNING TALK SHOW (SEVCEC EN VIVO)

Host Pedro Sevcec covers issues ranging from domestic violence to advice on buying consumer goods. The show airs 9 a.m. to noon EST. The slug is "news you can use," so make pitches topical and informational.

EDITOR/LEAD TIME: Producer, Carolina Fernandez, Fax: 305/463-5001, Phone: 305/463-5000

Lead Time: For breaking news, contact the producers that day; evergreen stories can be held over.

METHODS: Fax and mail are the best ways to reach the staff. Spokeswoman Nickie Jurado says if you can pitch in Spanish, contact the producers directly. If not, Jurado can pass on all releases.

COMMENTS: The more current the better for the morning talk show, says Jurado. This is a show, however, that will take stories with a long shelf life.

Always ask yourself, "how can a listener use this information," before giving the staff ideas. Your pitches will hit the air waves if you explain what readers will benefit from the story and how.

SECTIONS: SPORTS (UNICA EN DEPORTES)

Sports stories that target the Hispanic market are of interest to the show.

Airing from 7-11 p.m EST, this four hour program is one of the longest and therefore has much room for outside ideas.

EDITOR/LEAD TIME: Producer, Jorge Ramos, Fax: 305/463-5001, Phone: 305/463-5000

Lead Time: One week

METHODS: Again, faxes or phone calls.

COMMENTS: If you're sending releases about sports and sporting events, make sure the information will target readers.

"We don't care if Nike is coming out with a new sneaker, but if Jennifer Lopez is the spokeswoman, that might be of interest," Jurado says.
