MEDIA INSIGHT

Chief Executive

733 Third Avenue, 24th Floor

New York, N.Y. 10017-3204

Chief Executive's content cup runneth over when it comes to story topics. A bible for U.S. chief executives, company presidents, chairmen and vice chairmen (but not COOs and CFOs) who share insight and growth strategies, this pub focuses on companies boasting more than $50 million in annual sales or equivalent assets. Even though you might expect some prima donnas here, that isn't the case. Due diligence, however, is still key before embarking on your pitch journey. (Founded: 1977; readership: 42,000)

SECTIONS: GENERAL NEWS

Chief Executive has a fairly small internal editorial department, so there aren't a lot of layers to go through to get the green light for an idea. Press releases and story ideas are almost always bounced off Editor-in-Chief J.P. Donlon.

EDITORS/LEAD TIME: Editor-in-Chief, J.P. Donlon Phone: 212/687-8438 E-mail: general mailbox: [email protected] or [email protected] Fax: 212/687-8456

Lead Time: several months

METHODS: It's a toss-up between e-mail and fax. The next best route is snail mail.

COMMENTS: Most of what's in this mag is penned by CEOs, including each issue's cover story. Another editorial hotspot is the CEO Roundtable, which spans a multitude of issues, from international finance to M&As (the latter's always a sure hit with readers worldwide). Other areas of interest include international trade, governance, shareholder value analysis and employee/human resource issues.

SECTIONS: 'TECHSCAPE'

This pub doesn't cover mainstream tech stuff: new software and hyped products, for instance. But the aforementioned column does delve into how what piece technology adds to the business puzzle - for example, how the Internet's being used as a marketing tool.

EDITORS/LEAD TIME: Senior Editor (handles tech news), C.J. Prince E-mail: [email protected] (tech was already taken)

METHODS: E-mail.

COMMENTS: The key to making headway with these editors is to be a scholar of the magazine and its nuances. Staffers advise it's best to order an editorial kit through Editorial Assistant Michele Baysden (212/687-8288) before traipsing into new pitch territory. Pros who pitch a topic without ever perusing a review issue really irk these editors.
