There are few healthcare topics cloaked in confusion the way cancer is. Overstated
or misleading claims often make finding credible information about this complex
subject difficult. News reports sometimes overstate the results of research
as "revolutionary breakthroughs" and unscrupulous Web sites claim that "natural
cures" are available. A recently launched Web site that provides around-the-clock
cancer news updates is hoping to chip away at this confusion. In addition to
providing educational videos and clinically edited cancer content, CancerEducation.com
offers an audio news service that updates consumers on the latest developments
in cancer. The news is reported and produced by Dr. Richard Lutes, an oncologist,
and Mark Bloom, a medical editor with 30 years in medical and science journalism.

The audio news updates, which are approximately two minutes long, cover every
aspect of cancer research in a non-technical, consumer-friendly format. Target
this site with information on cancer studies, treatments and educational events.

Health Coverage

This site targets consumers and the medical community. For consumers, the audio
news updates cover recent advancements in cancer treatments and research. And
for the medical community, an e-newsletter provides information on professional
interests like FDA trends, managed care issues and reimbursement updates.

Comments

In addition to pitching this site on stories that can be used for the audio
news service, Dr. Lutes is also looking for story ideas that can be used for
educational videos. The videos cover cancer conferences, seminars and patient
profiles. Efforts are under way to produce a video by June that will focus on
cancer survivors. Producers are looking for cancer patient success stories.
