Note: Financial World is a monthly investment magazine (circulation 450,000) geared towards personal investors and multimillion-dollar companies. It takes its most unique and relevant content from the magazine and puts it on the online site, with content solely from the print version. FW showcases companies that offer investment opportunities and does thorough financial evaluations of them. Below we highlight four coverage areas, all of which accept PR pitches for the print and online versions.
SECTIONS | EDITORS | DAYS TO CONTACT/ DAYS TO AVOID |

Statistically Speaking Examines company statistics, for example, FW most recently showed the best bargains based on a company's cash flow. |
Deputy Editor Michael Ozanian Phone: 212/594-5030 x203 Fax: 212/268-2074 |
Ozanian is open to any time/any day. | Ozanian wants to get pitches by snail mail. He recommends pitching to anyone on the editorial staff, because no one has a strictly assigned beat. He also suggests sending ideas to Editor-in-Chief Stephen Taub, x204. | Read the magazine and become familiar with its content before sending pitches. He says that 90% of what is faxed to them is irrelevant. What interests Ozanian are brand-names and their worth. For example, what does the Marlboro name mean to Philip Morris? What do the highest earners on Wall Street make? |
Virtual Investor This column explores and describes Web sites that are dedicated to investment opportunities. |
Managing Editor Edward Baker Phone: 212/594-5030 x206 Fax: 212/268-2074 |
Any time/any day is fine. | Phone calls are okay - but don't call him about a simple fact such as the hiring of a new VP; faxing will save him precious time. He's less open to e-mail. | Similar to Ozonian's point, Baker urges PR professionals to understand the concept of the magazine before submitting any materials to him. |
Mutual Fund Watch Financial World mainly does stories on companies with over a billion dollars in market capitalization. |
Reporter Michael Alkin Phone: 212/594-5030 x281 Fax: 212/268-2074 |
Alkin says he's pretty accessible; if he's on a deadline (usually mid- month) he'll let you know - if not, he'll gladly speak to you. | Alkin prefers human interaction, so phoning him is best. When calling, speak like a real person would - don't read him a scripted pitch. Know your subject - he will ask questions! Faxes are fine but no email: he would rather see something on paper. | He says he often gets calls from reps who know the name of a company and nothing else. All he asks for are a few bullet points to catch his attention - he'll do the reporting from there. Remember, they don't simply profile companies with good investment potentials; there should be a new catch to it. |
Features Covers large capital, mutual funds, stock appraisals, personal- finance issues, technology, Wall Street and sports. FW does an annual financial ranking of every sports team from basketball to hockey. |
Staff Writer Arthur Goldgaber Phone: 212/594-5030 x205 Fax: 212/268-2074 |
Since the deadline for the magazine is usually mid-month, the window of opportunity to pitch issues is the beginning of the magazine's monthly cycle - the third week of each month. | Fax him in advance -Goldgaber likes to receive something in writing before getting into a long conversation with a PR rep. | If one of its competitors was about to run a big article on a certain company, FW probably wouldn't be interested in covering the same story. Goldgaber writes in-depth stories of why investors should or should not buy or sell, and profiles interesting companies or successful investors. He asks PR people to consider: what is unique about this company? |
