Eighty-six percent of teachers surveyed by New York-based West Glen Communications believe that corporations in the U.S. can do more to support education.

Companies that are convinced that training shouldn't be a part of their work culture might get a wake-up call based on the results of a new survey. A study released April 1 by CDB Research & Consulting Inc., New York, indicates that half of Americans believe their employers don't have a serious commitment toward training within their organization. Keep Your Eyes Peeled For the PRSA Silver Anvils

One of the Miss America pageants of the PR profession is winding to a close with 87 finalists in the running in the 1998 Silver Anvil Competition held by the Public Relations Society of America. Winners will be announced June 11 at the Equitable Center in New York. (PRSA, 212/460-0310)

Obituary

Joseph W. Clark Dies

Joseph W. Clark, co-founder and executive VP of Mathews & Clark Communications Inc., Sunnyvale, Calif., died March 24 at 61 after a short illness. The agency he founded along with Walter Mathews more than two decades ago now has offices in London, Amsterdam, Hong Kong and Austin, Texas.

Business Moves/Changes

Connors Communications, New York, has added another layer to its PR and marketing mix.

The company, which represents consumer and technology companies and their products, will represent clients with workplace products and services through its new business-to-business group, Connors Business. The group will be headed by Brenda Wheeler who folded her consulting practice, Wheeler/Baird, into CC. (CC, 212/807-7500)

Hill and Knowlton, New York, opened April 6 two new offices: in Moscow and Buenos Aires. Michael Kuzmiak heads the Russian office, which grew out of H&K's relationship with the Russian company RAO Gazprom, which wanted on-site representation.
