Recent Surveys: A Communications Pipeline To the Top

A recent report from the National Foundation for Women Business Owners, Washington, D.C., shows that business owners (both men and women) seek advice from in-house accountants and CFOs on a regular basis - placing their insight higher than communications that come from company boards of directors and associations.

For those jockeying for PR funding, that revelation should prove that it should be an absolute that your CFO knows how you're spending your communications budget - but most importantly, that she/he knows that it's money well spent. If your CFO backs you, then you've got a direct pipeline to the top. (NFWBO, 301/495-4975)

PR, MIS Battle For Control of the Web

Research conducted by The Institute for Public Relations Research and Education discovered major rifts between MIS departments and PR within the same company. Comfortable with the technology, MIS has often been the first to create/maintain/administrate a company Web site. Thus, Net-related communications have been lacking, and organizations are losing a prime opportunity to use the power of the Web to manage internal and external relationships.

Reasonably, a company should split Web administration duties, allowing MIS to be in charge of site security and day-to-day operations while PR (or marketing) can oversee content, corporate public affairs and, in many cases, investor and media relations.
