Localize It

For Del Galloway, a partner in the Jacksonville, Fla.-based advertising/PR firm Husk Jennings Galloway + Robinson, this week's PRSA's annual meeting most likely his last
hurrah; as president of the group; he steps down December 31. (Judy Phair, president of Laurel, Md.-Phair Advantage Communications, takes the helm Jan. 1, 2005.) Asked what was
one of the surprising aspects of his tenure, Galloway told PR News:

"The hard work we do can be undercut by an Enron-type scandal, so [Society members] are looking to the PRSA to be a voice for the industry. We've spoken out on the Martha
Stewart trial, FCC [obscenity] issues and the CBS flap [about President Bush's National Guard records]. But they want more...We have to proactively offer national positions on the
issues of the day and drill down those positions to the local level so PR executives can have more of an impact with their communities."
