Senior Director, Integrated Marketing Communications
As senior director of business and brand communications for NASCAR, Jon Schwartz plays a key leadership role on the sanctioning body’s integrated marketing communications team. Since joining NASCAR in 2011, Jon has helped generate powerful headlines, build positive relationships with media that don’t traditionally cover the sport, and champion NASCAR’s green credentials and use of ethanol as an alternative fuel.
Based in New York, he has day-to-day oversight of several functional areas of the business, including NASCAR Properties, Marketing, and Green Innovation, among others. Jon manages a team of professionals who help enhance NASCAR’s brand reputation and demonstrate why NASCAR is the sport that works for business.
Prior to NASCAR, he held leadership roles and influenced communications strategy at three public companies—Bank of America, MasterCard and UST Inc—all of which operate in challenging industries with complex consumer and regulatory issues. While on the agency side at Taylor, he worked on big, blue chip brands and capturing awards for his work in the process.
He also founded, built and staffed public relations departments at three professional sports teams—two in the New York DMA, the most saturated U.S. sports market. Jon has spent the last decade helping disabled children and adults discover sports as co-founder and coaching director of the NJ Dare Devils Special Hockey Team. He is also on the board of directors of the American Special Hockey Association.
A member of the Public Relations Society of America, Jon was named to the PRWeek “40 Under 40” List—the first person from motorsports and only the second person from the sports industry to receive the distinction. He is also the 2012 recipient of the PR News Platinum PR Award for Corporate Social Responsibility Leader of the Year.
