(GS-12) The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service in Riverdale, MD, is recruiting for a public affairs specialist (vacancy#24-52-098, which closes on 12/18/98) at the GS-12 level.
The incumbent will be responsible for planning, designing and implementing a comprehensive, nationwide outreach and media campaign to convey agency information to various audiences. The position requires a creative, media-savvy individual who can market and promote agency programs to the media. An extensive PR or journalism background desired.

UPS/Public/Media Relations
This position is responsible for writing press releases, speeches, newsletters and case studies and will therefore have experience with the trade and national business press. Qualified individual will create Public Relations programs and newsworthy stories for products and services, not just the organization as a whole, (e.g. news service announcements, rate changes, etc.) Previous experience working with marketing communications and sales support to integrate efforts for the launch of new products and services is preferred.
Must have approximately 5 years experience in PR; agency experience preferred. Business-to-business and media experience will be a plus. The ability to utilize new technology such as the Internet or other vehicles to set up PR programs would also be a plus.
