George Magazine's Fate Is Still Unclear

Editors at George magazine have not gone on the record as to whether or not John F. Kennedy, Jr.'s publication can or will survive without him, since he was, after all, the magazine's creator and day-to-day leader. According to a Wednesday MSNBC article, editors are trying to construct a new cover, perhaps of Kennedy, to replace the one planned of Harrison Ford and Kristin Scott Thomas, who are co-stars of "Random Hearts," a movie about a couple who gets killed in a plane crash.

Publicists at Hachette Filipacchi Magazines will not comment about how long George will remain under their roof, but in a statement issued last Monday, Jack Kliger, the company's president and CEO said, "HFM continues to be committed to fulfilling John's vision for the magazine."

The next step, according to media industry experts, is to hold your breath and maybe even keep your distance.

"A good PR person would leave this staff alone," says Steve Cohn, editor-in-chief of Media Industry Newsletter (sister publication of PR NEWS) in New York. "Shoving the mic in somebody's face and saying `what are you doing about George' is kind of presumptuous."
