Don W. Stacks, professor and director of University of Miami's Program in Advertising & Public Relations, has been named winner of the 1999 Pathfinder Award by the Institute for Public Relations. The award recognizes scholarly research which "has made a significant contribution to the body of knowledge and practice of public relations."

A panel of PR educators and practitioners awarded top honors to Stacks for his research on "Perceptions of Public Relations Education."

The National School Public Relations Association, which supports PR education measures in secondary schools, has elected a new round of leaders for the coming school year.

Connie Blaney, APR and Director of PR (Norman Oklahoma Public Schools) takes the helm as president of the 1,700-member group. Other newly elected officers include:

  • President Elect: Dick Thornton, APR, director of communications, Fort Knox, Ky. Public Schools
  • VP At Large for Urban Education: Frank Kwan, Los Angeles County Office of Education
  • VP, South Central Region: Marsha Chappelow, assistant superintendent for communications, Blue Valley Schools, Overland Park, Kan.
  • VP, North Central Region: Bob Noyed, senior associate for community relations, Robbinsdale Area Schools, Minneapolis, Minn.
