IABC Facing Trial Stemming From Defamation Suit…

A trial is set for November 9 regarding defamation and other charges filed against the International Association of Business Communicators by its former CEO Elizabeth Allan.
The suit, filed in May 2003, claims that the IABC violated Allan's separation agreement when (ex-acting) IABC president Louis Williams, speaking before the American Society of
Association Executives in August 2002, commented on Allan's financial management during her tenure. Members of IABC's leadership were informed of the suit in August 2003, says
IABC chair David Kistle, a senior VP with Padilla Speer Beardsley. He tells us that if the IABC loses the case, any liability is covered by the group's insurance. A settlement
cannot be ruled out, either.
