How To Avoid The ‘Tech Wreck’ Syndrome

Senior PR execs can be forgiven for thinking that, perhaps, they should have majored in engineering (rather than, say, journalism or English Lit), what with the relentless wave
of new technologies (RSS, podcasting, etc.) they must ride. Now comes some relief (or at least a bit of guidance): New York MegaTech Day, a full-day program for PR pros to learn
and discuss the use of new methods in Web communications along with more traditional means.

The seminar, organized by Joel Strasser, past president of the New York chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and founder of the PRSA Technology
Section, will be held September 29 at the New York Institute of Technology in Manhattan.

More than 100 media-relations, publicity and tech-marketing pros are expected at the event.

The agenda includes a media panel featuring Barnaby Feder of the New York Times, Stephanie Mehta of Fortune and Adam Aston of BusinessWeek. Also speaking
are Richard Comeford of Electronic Products, Susan Hassler of IEEE Spectrum and David Finck of Laptop and TechEDGE magazines.

One panel that's expected to be a big draw will cover new technologies such as blogs, podcasts, micropersuasioon and other nuances that have recently crept into the Web as
useful (or controversial) tools of communication; that seminar will be moderated by Don Bates of Media Distribution Services.
