George goes down. George, the six-year old experiment that hoped to blend compelling analysis of politics with Hollywood puff, becomes the first casualty in what
will likely be a long line of magazines killed by shrinking ad revenues in 2001. A final issue featuring interviews conducted by pub's late founder, John F. Kennedy, Jr.,
hits newsstands in March. (Anne Janas, Hachette Filipacchi, 212/767-5810)

The Tribune Also Rises. The International Herald Tribune (IHT) plans to publish a joint English-language edition in the Land of the Rising Sun. The
venture is a partnership with Asahi Shimbun, which also publishes Tokyo's English-language newspaper, the Asahi Evening News. Under the arrangement, the Asahi Evening
News
will be rolled into the IHT's new English edition, which will be printed in Tokyo and Osaka for distribution throughout Japan. In a press release last week, IHT chairman
and CEO Peter C. Goldmark, Jr. said the deal was an "important breakthrough" that would give the West vital insight into the globe's second-largest economy. (Catherine
