LA's Bizarre Read. A new, free monthly magazine hopes to hit LA like
an earthquake. The publication, Bold, is aimed at Gen-X hipsters interested
in politics, technology and celebrities (pretty normal), sex, drinking, gambling
and everything wild (pushing the envelope). The brainchild of Michael Davis,
publisher and CEO of Davis Media Group, Bold aims to entertain and enlighten,
as well as candidly examine American vices and virtues. The editor is Rhonda
Wilson; associate editor is Teena Apeles. The magazine will start its distribution
in LA, but plans are to expand to New York and San Francisco.

Role Models Wanted. A Webzine has been launched to introduce women to
role models, not fashion models. Heroinemagazine.com features stories, conversations
and photographs of female artists, athletes, explorers, rebels and rock stars,
along with fiction and news. Grammy-nominated singer Joan Osborne is the editor
in spirit; Ingrid Ducmanis will take pitches as the site editor.

E-xponential Growth. eCompany Now adds eight new faces to its
editorial team, all with extensive credentials from well-known print pubs. Charlie
McCoy becomes senior editor, moving from the Wall Street Journal. Riza
Cruz joins, also as a senior editor, moving from Vanity Fair. Ralph King,
Paul Keegan, Paul Kaihla, David Freedman and Michael Newman join as senior writers,
while Dylan Tweney becomes a contributing writer. The magazine credits its expansion
on the editorial side to its 63% growth in average paid circulation, raising
the magazine's base to 325,000 effective January 2001.

former editor-in-chief of Oxygen Media, becomes consulting editor. Roger Parloff
is named legal editor. The magazine, which focuses on technology's influence
in the media business, is set for rollout in late fall.
