Hot Tools: Two Hospitals Test Analysis Software

Long Island College Hospital (LICH) in Brooklyn and Louis Weiss Memorial Hospital (LWMH) in Chicago are beta-testing a comparative analysis software package designed to help executive management make more informed decisions about strategic direction, cost-effectiveness and quality of care enhancements.

The beta version of Healthshare Two is the latest addition of Acton, Mass.-based Healthshare Technology's software that provides comparative internal and external market information to hospitals, managed care companies and physician groups.

Healthshare Two uses the healthcare organization's internal data to provide in-depth physician profiling, cost analysis and managed care contracting.

LWMH, which has 206 beds, will use Healthshare Two for profitability analysis and physician practice patterns. And LICH, with 516 beds, will use the software program for product line cost analysis and as a resource for negotiating managed care contracts.

The program uses a patented presentation feature called the Decision Consultant, to generate reports with color graphics, tables and text.

Healthshare Two's technology will allow hospitals to incorporate information about patients across the continuum of care - from inpatient registration to outpatient services. It will be available next quarter, at the annual price of $60,000 to $80,000 and runs on desktop PC-compatible computers with Windows '95 or NT and the Macintosh.
