Hospitals Make Music To Celebrate Newborns

When it comes to promoting maternity services, there's no such thing as being too cute or corny. This is why a lullaby CD, which is played on the hospital's PA system when a
baby is born, has become a big hit.

The brainchild of a guitarist, Mark Maxwell from Athens, Ga., the CD has sold more than 100,000 copies since its debut in 1992.

Artwork on the liner sleeve is customized with the hospital's name and logo.

For new moms the CD is a keepsake featuring the baby's name, weight, length, time of birth and doctor. The CD, produced by First Tune, includes eight lullabies and is used by
more than 40 hospitals nationwide.

The CD boosts hospital morale, says Gregory Schaffer, senior VP of Johns Hopkins' Bayview Medical Center and Deborah L. Mount, director of women and newborn services at
Northwest Medical Center in Margate, Fla. The CD also can be used for fundraising efforts and media campaigns.
