A group of PR professionals in Miami is leading an effort to create a Hispanic Professional Interest Section of the Public Relations Society of America in recognition of the rapidly growing Hispanic market in the United States.
"This is not about ethnicity. This is about the economic import of the fastest growing market in the United States," said Elena del Valle, an account supervisor at Rubin, Barney & Birger, Coral Gables, Fla. Del Valle and Roseanna Fiske, another Miami-area executive, spearheaded an effort to form a local group, which was approved by the board of Miami's PRSA chapter last summer.
A decision is expected by PRSA's board of directors in January.
