Penthouse: New Morality?

We're not sure if it's clever or just plain silly: Penthouse magazine is taking on the federal government and promoting the magazine's stance for righting public wrongs.

PR NEWS' interest in Penthouse magazine's new PR campaign touting the publication as "The New Morality" came to our interest after Penthouse's advertising team Avrett, Free & Ginsberg Inc. took out a full-page ad Aug. 4 in The Washington Post that attacks the National Cancer Institute's study for the cancer medication hydrazine sulfate.

Penthouse claims that NCI purposely botched studies because of the medication's low cost.

The NCI told us that it had one query from a Wall Street Journal reporter last week and that there's been little other press hype about the issue.

The Post ad showed a picture of Kathy Keeton, who is Penthouse publisher's Bob Guccione's wife and the one who's helped uncover the alleged cover-up.
