Four Tips for Optimal Social Media Training

Thinking about setting up a formal social media training program in your organization? You may not need it to be as comprehensive as Edelman’s Belt System, but there are some basic things to keep in mind, says Phil Gomes, SVP of digital integration for Edelman.
1.    “There’s a tendency to address social media as a technology issue—what knob do I turn, what switch do I flip? Start with the more philosophical aspects, which are less overwhelming and more welcoming, and work backward,” says Gomes.
2.    “Consider that we live in a bite-size culture, and plan your instruction around that. We’ve found that our four-minutes-per-day rule works well for our employees.”
3    “There’s a tendency for organizations to consider long-form learning as the most valuable, but consider short-form training. We’ve found our online system to be very effective.”
4.    “Training will be much more valuable from a organizational sense if there is some measurement behind it, particularly in terms of team building and professional development.”
