High-tech may be high and dry right now, but there are still media outlets anxious to hear your technology news.
"Filter" is a new column on washingtonpost.com that runs every weekday morning. (For more information, see: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/technology/columns/filter.) Columnist Cindy Webb, on the lookout
for technology news, recently spoke with PR NEWS columnist Reid Walker:
R.W.: What's the focus for Filter?
C.W.: Filter focuses on the day's top technology news. It is designed to give readers a smart synopsis of both must-know breaking technology stories, as well as a snapshot of
the interesting tech stories that will likely spur discussion at the water cooler throughout the day. Through links to coverage from various media outlets, including publications
in the United States and abroad, Filter gives a daily crash-course on what's happening in technology, from telecom and software business news to technology trends. I believe
Filter appeals to techies of all stripes and the masses too since it gives a good primer of what's going on in the technology industry at the start of each business day.
R.W.: Filter doesn't offer much original material. But is there information from PR that would be helpful to you?
C.W.: Since Filter is designed to "filter" through the day's technology headlines, interesting links to articles or technology-related tales from hometown papers, off-the-
beaten-path Web sites and trade publications would be helpful. Each day I aim to give readers a daily dose of what is being covered in technology, but there is a limit to what I
can scan for and put into context each morning. So having other "eyes" passing along interesting links of tech coverage would always be very helpful for the column.

R.W.: What are your deadlines?
C.W.: I write Filter every Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. ET.
R.W.: Are you working on stories for the site besides Filter?
C.W.: In addition to my role as a columnist for Filter, I also cover general technology stories for the Web site. A number of articles I have recently focused on have related
to government contracting and IT consulting firms and how they are carving out new work with the federal government.
I also have authored a "Federal Challenge" series, which is something we plan to update on a regular basis with new features and articles about how technology firms are tapping
into homeland security-related work and the growth of the government marketplace.
