The five most sought after skills for PR communicators include: outstanding writing skills, using PR to help branding, ability to focus on consumer behavior, marcom expertise and employee communications expertise, according to Elisabeth A. Ryan a senior VP/managing director at Heyman Associates, an executive recruiter firm in New York.At the International Association of Business Communicators conference in New Orleans last week she offered this additional advice:

  • Corporations and non-profits are looking for generalists but agencies want specialists.
  • When you go to an interview: "When you first walk into a company and they leave you in the lobby, use that time to observe ev,erything that's gong on."

  • Reporting to CEO is becoming a trend: 50 percent of the communicators Heyman placed in positions last year report directly to the CEO.
