EDITORS FOCUS ON FOOD HANDLING

Food PR execs take note: food editors at newspapers today are more likely to focus on safe food handling in their coverage of the beat, according to a survey released on July 24 by CMF&Z Public Relations, Des Moines, Iowa.

The study by the affiliate of global ad agency Young & Rubicam, New York, found that 69 percent of the 150 editors contacted believe that food handling is important to the public. When CMF&Z conducted a similar study last year, only 14 percent of newspaper editors rated food handling as important.

A companion telephone survey of 150 randomly chosen consumers found that they have even greater interest in safe food handling, with 82 percent rating it "very important." (CMF&Z, 515/246-3585)
