Eddie Bauer’s PR for Courtroom Battle Still Cloaked in Secrecy

So far, mum's the word from Eddie Bauer, which last week was in the throes of a court case based on allegations that a teenager wearing an Eddie Bauer shirt was charged with shoplifting because of "consumer racism [the youth revealed a receipt that showed he had bought garments at an EB store the day before]," according to accounts in The Washington Post and other papers.

Cheryl Engstrom, PR manager for EB, told PR NEWS on Oct. 1 that the company had yet to issue a statement or place info. online concerning the case because it hadn't yet been resolved. However, she did say that its legal team - which was still battling the case as of PR NEWS' deadline - is fielding and answering questions from reporters covering the case. She also said Eddie Bauer is "eager to communicate its side" as soon as an outcome is determined. (Eddie Bauer, 206/882-6100)
