Diabetes Campaign Grabs $1 Million Support

A national diabetes education campaign received a $1 million check this month to target seniors with information on managing the disease by enhancing their overall quality of life.

The Best of Life-Diabetes program, developed by The Senior Network and Kmart, provides free information on prevention, treatment, lifestyle issues and products and services for seniors with diabetes.

Disease prevention and treatment displays addressing pain alleviation, mobility, safety and exercise will be created for Kmart's 1,600 pharmacies and TSN's 2,500 Senior Activity Centers nationwide. TSN will also conduct diabetes seminars at its centers, add an interactive diabetes page to its Web site and offer free risk assessments and glucose monitoring.

Corporate sponsors include Bristol Myers Squibb, Eli Lilly, Warner Lambert and Kraft Foods. The Alliance for Aging Research will help to develop educational materials.
