Corporate Public Affairs Compensation

Data from the Public Affairs Council's Corporate Public Affairs Compensation Report shows compensation for public affairs professionals on par with compensation for corporate
communications professionals.

Top public affairs execs get median compensation of $188,500, according to the PAC report, compared with $183,600 for a VP of corporate communications, per Mercer Human
Resource Consulting's Corporate Marketing and Communications Compensation Survey.

The full study, conducted during Spring and Summer 2002, shows senior corporate government relations professionals earn significantly more in base salary than executives in
community relations, however, according to PAC's manager of research and analysis, Andrew Foos.

Survey results also showed public affairs execs typically take charge of government relations activities, as well as for any of a variety of other functions including state
government relations, federal government relations, issues management, local government relations, public interest/public policy group relations and political action
committees.

The Corporate Public Affairs Compensation Report details compensation data from 84 participating companies. The 40-page report is available from the Foundation for Public
Affairs to participating companies for $125 and to non-participants for $250.
