CONSUMER PULSE CHECK

HMC Mindset, of New York, regularly checks the temperature of the healthcare marketplace by surveying consumers and physicians. The topics tend to be broad and not client specific, according to Geoff Kintgen, an HMC Mindset director. To date, HMC has conducted three studies in the last year:

  • The first measured how proactive patients were about requesting specific prescription medication with their physicians. The results showed that women were twice as likely as men to question their physician about a particular brand of medication or treatment.

  • Its most recent study examined mothers' relationships with their physicians. Results confirmed that pediatricians, as opposed to primary care physicians, are the favored choice for information regarding their children's health. Mothers tended to develop closer relationships with their pediatricians than with other providers.
