Using An Alias To Deal With Media In Blogs?

A recent conversation revealed that a senior-level PR practitioner had noticed an unsavory blog post about his company and responded to the post under an alias so as to not

reveal his role within the organization.

But is it ethical for PR professionals to use an alias when they are responding to an online posting/blog/media inquiry in their roles as PR practitioners (rather than, say, as

an individual who is surfing the Internet in his free time)?

Starting with this issue, PR News' new feature, "Back Talk," will appear weekly in this space. Every week, we will ask contentious, serious, funny or ironic questions

about the PR and communications profession, and we want to hear what you have to say.

To respond, please visit PR News's new forum at http://www.prnewsonline.com (enter the forum by scrolling down and clicking

the "enter here" prompt below our guidebook offerings on the right-hand side of the page). The question posed here (in addition to others that come our way) will be posted online,

and we will use the forum as a vehicle for discussion among readers.

So let us know where you stand on this PR issue -- and others -- as well as posting your own!
