Recently, Margarita was appointed to launch 1888 Hotel — a new boutique property in Sydney’s Pyrmont. With virtually no budget, PR was the only component to the launch campaign. While researching the launch strategy, Margarita came across the fact that 1888 was the year Kodak launched the first box camera and first roll camera. Taking this and running, she made Instagram a key component of 1888 Hotel’s launch. A selfie space was created in the lobby, encouraging patrons to use the #1888Hotel. One thousand images followed, with one image alone receiving more than 30,000 likes. Within the first three weeks of the campaign, the hotel was at 98 percent occupancy and after two months, 1888 Hotel was listed the number one hotel in Sydney by TripAdvisor.
