Michelle Agnew, Communications Specialist, Southwest Airlines
Michelle Agnew started her career with Southwest Airlines back in 2007 as a communications intern. Since then she has worked with the Culture Services Team, and in 2010 found her way back to the communications department as a Communications Specialist. She has continued to expand her responsibilities representing the firm internally and externally by handling 24/7 media relations coverage, integrating Southwest into film, television, and music, as well as brand reputation and social media messaging.
Michelle played an important role in orchestrating some of Southwest’s most creative and successful communications efforts of 2014. When the band New Kids on the Block approached the airline about building a unique blended experience for fans and customers, Michelle turned it into the “NKOTB Party Plane” where fans entered to win tickets for a flight with the band, VIP events, and the NKOTB After Dark concert. Her efforts resulted in 11,000 comments and 4,000 likes on the initial Facebook contest post, the accompanying blog post received a record 21,600 page views, and over 20 media mentions in the likes of Billboard and MTV News.
