2014 PR People Awards: Internal Communicator of the Year

Winner: Debbie Helvig, Employee Engagement and Communications Executive, Bank of America

Debbie Helvig leads enterprise communications and employee engagement for Bank of America. This includes oversight of company-wide internal communications; employee channels, including an intranet platform and video broadcast capabilities; CEO/executive events; internal and external engagement programs and communications for the company’s focused strategic business initiatives.

In her role with Bank of America, Helvig has far exceeded expectations, as current employee satisfaction scores are at record highs, pulse surveys show that employees understand and believe in the company’s values and company purpose, employees are “liking” articles and posting comments, and company logo merchandise sales are up as employees proudly display their support of the company brand.

April 2014 saw the launch of a new Global Employee Anniversary program, helping to consistently celebrate employee milestones in a big way at Bank of America. As a precursor to this program launch, the fall 2013 earning global employee broadcast was used to celebrate employees with over 50 years at the company. A nod to both the company heritage and employee personal heritage, 18 employees joined live in person with the leadership team to share their story. Since then, Bank of America has continued to highlight its company heritage through local activities and articles in celebration of its 230 year anniversary.
