Are ‘Wants’ Stronger Than ‘Likes’?

The Huffington Post, in its Tech Social Start-Up series, just covered new app available to the public called "want!" In a nutshell, people can download the app and chronicle their wants and desires through photos and text sent via their smartphones. The app is pushed through to Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and Tumblr. In fact, you can get the app through Facebook Connect. With want! not only can you want a product or a service, but you could also want to “take a walk in the park” or daydream about an apartment you might like to live in.

The ability to make your wants known, instead of just pressing the “like” button, could be a powerful tool for communicators, as want! keeps lists of “most wanted” things. The desire to be at the top of these lists would be something that any brand or organization would, well, want. What’s your take on want!? In a “me-me” society, could it be a very effective social tool, or just the social flavor of the month?
