Worldcom Touts Communication to the United Nations
The Worldcom Group, a global network of independent PR firms,
issued recommendations about communications in democratic societies at
a meeting earlier this month of the United Nations Habitat Conference
in Istanbul, Turkey.
Included in a list of 12 recommendations were those calling for
cooperation between businesses, governments and authorities to ensure
that emerging telecommunications and information systems are available
to all citizens and foster democracy and accountability. Worldcom's
recommendations were made in conjunction with the session, "Cities,
Communications and the Media in the Information Society." (Worldcom,

Firms Receive Honors
Jim Bergeson, president of Colle & McVoy Marketing
Communications, Minneapolis, was named the "Bloomington Small
Businessperson of the Year" by the Bloomington (Minn.) Chamber of
Commerce. The award recognizes business success and contributions to
the community. Bergeson has headed the 167-person ad/PR agency since

Erin/Edwards Communications Inc., a Glen Head, N.Y., marcom
agency, received the "Nassau County Community Service Award" from the
Nassau County chapter of the American Red Cross. The firm received
the award in recognition of its free development of a home page for
