Ads Rival Friends as Generator of Brand ‘Likes’; Johnson & Johnson Leads List of Top CSR Companies

â–¶ Ads In: Friends’ recommendations may be the primary driver of brand “likes” on Facebook, but ads are not far behind, says a DDB / OpinionWay study. Findings include:

• 75% of those who liked a brand on Facebook did so because of an ad or another form of direct outreach. Invitations from friends was the impetus for 59% of likes, while personal research accounted for 49%.

• Respondents said they become brand fans in three ways: 59% received an invitation from a friend; 56% had seen advertising for a brand’s Facebook page; and 41% received an invitation e-mail from a brand to join.

â–¶ J&J Tops in CSR: Johnson & Johnson was perceived to havethe best CSR credentials in a survey by The Reputation Institute and Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship. Other findings:

• J&J claimed the top spot even though it has been forced to recall a large amount of goods linked to its McNeil Consumer Healthcare arm.

• The Walt Disney Company took second place with 81.33 points while food group Kraft took third, receiving 80.56 points. PRN
