AD-SUPPORTED E-MAIL SERVICE

Following the model of commercial-supported broadcasting, a new
company has unveiled an advertiser-supported Internet service offering
free e-mail service to its customers. Since going live in April, Juno
Online Services L.P., New York, has signed up 63,000 users, and
another 100,000 individuals have requested the company's software,
said a company spokesperson.

Based on demographic information supplied by customers,
advertisers can select to whom they would like to present their ads.
Advertising rates are based on the number of individuals exposed to
ads. Banner ads running across the top of screens cost between 7 and
10 cents per exposure; full-page "showcase" ads--which allow readers
to click and respond--cost between 8 and 12 cents. (Juno,
