Measurement is important, but to ignore big opportunities because they don't offer much in the way of measurement would be getting it a bit backwards. Such is the case with Periscope, Meerkat and other live streaming platforms. At this stage it may be difficult to quantify how well your investment in live streaming is paying off, but it was ever thus for a young medium. On the other hand, there are certain advantages to being an early explorer of this new frontier that you won't find elsewhere.
At our upcoming Video Webinar: How to use Periscope and Meerkat to Broadcast Your Brand on Nov. 19, our speakers Mallory Perkins, senior manager of digital strategy at Walmart; Cathy Hackl, CEO and founder of Socially Streaming; and Anastasia Khoo, director of marketing for The Human Rights Campaign will discuss how to get started and some reasons why, such as the opportunity to:
- Take advantage of discovery. If you're late in the game to an established platform like Instagram, you'll find yourself among a somewhat crystallized audience: they already follow several accounts and have a robust feed full of content, and convincing them to follow you as well could be tricky. But every day countless people, even tech-savvy ones, are still trying Periscope for the first time, browsing blindly, and ready to follow the first account that appeals to them. It could be yours.
- Communicate like never before. People who can communicate effectively by reading and writing (hello there!) often forget that there are many who don't. There is a vast swath of the population who are auditory learners, and will absorb your message much more easily by hearing it from you.
- Be authentic. This may terrify some, but the naked authenticity of live video interaction with a brand is something people are starved for. When you host a live Q&A, your audience knows there is no slick, premeditated effort to craft and focus-group the perfect answer. If you are confident enough in your brand to expose it to the light of day via live streaming, it will pay dividends in the respect and loyalty of your audience.
